Kathy Kosins - Award-Winning Vocalist

Fresh off the 2019 Blue Note at Sea Cruise and a successful run at the Blue Note Beijing, Detroit Vocalist and ASCAP award winning composer Kathy Kosins is thrilled to celebrate the year-long success that her sixth studio album, Uncovered Soul has gained across commercial radio. The driving, funk-tinged track " Put the Voodoo on Me," is Kosins' 4th consecutive Top 20 Smooth Jazz Single over the past 12 months. This single is currently #18 on the Smooth Jazz Network Singles Chart, and is the highest charting smooth jazz vocal track for the third consecutive week. Featured as a First Play on Soul Tracks, the track also sits at #18 on the Global Independent Airplay Chart. This acclaim serves as a perfect precedent to her upcoming supporting performance to Gregory Porter at Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre, Mableton, Georgia on June 22, 2019.

Continuing with this impressive incline in radio success, the vocalist reached #1 with " Uncovered Soul" and #6 with " Can We Pretend" , while " Put the Voodoo On Me" just topped the Indie Top 30 Soul Chart at #1! In addition, the album was A-Listed on Jazz FM London. The title track "Uncovered Soul" rose to #19 on the Smooth Jazz Network singles chart, the sultry musings of "A to B" rose to #11, and Kosins' rendition of the Denise Nichols-penned " Can We Pretend" made it to #22. Additionally, Kosins was nominated by the Smooth Jazz Network for "Breakout Artist of 2018." The artist reached #13 on the Jazz Week 'Straight Ahead' jazz charts over a nine-week period. " Put the Voodoo On Me" was listed as #17 in Cashbox Magazine's Top 150 Independent Airplay Chart for the week of March 23, 2019 and reached number 60 on their Top 200 Airplay (All Formats) for the same week.

Uncovered Soul, released on Maristar, is a celebration of Kosins' soul-infused roots, tracing back to the artist's upbringing during the legendary Motown years in Detroit. Catering to both jazz and soul aficionados, Kosins delivers her most intense and intimate singing yet and wows audiences with her impeccable, flawless phrasing and a deep-rooted passion for telling the story. Her eclectic musical palette delves deep into the rich history of both Jazz and Soul. With Kamau Kenyatta, the stellar longtime producer of Gregory Porter, by her side, Kosins takes listeners on a dynamic musical journey through the sonic landscape of her native Detroit through the 1960's and 1970's. This soul-infused project which made it to #1 on the Solar Radio chart and sat at #1 on the official Indie Soul Chart for two weeks straight, was led the Detroit-native to make her BBC debut on the Robert Elms Show. The album garnered international attention from publications including SoulTracks, All About Jazz, Jazz Journal, Jazzwise and PopMatters.

Previous notable albums released by Kosins includes 2002's Mood Swings (Chiaroscuro Records), 2006's Vintage (Mahogany Jazz), 2012's To The Ladies Of Cool (Resonance) and 2013's The Space Between (Mahogany Jazz). A singular sound in the vocal world, Kosins exemplifies the intersection of jazz and soul. Steeped in the jazz tradition as well as all of the energy and intensity of soul, "Uncovered Soul" was the natural next step in Kosins' prolific career.

When not touring the USA or Europe, Kathy excels as a painter. Her abstract acrylics on canvas are influenced by the cubist paintings of the '50s. Commissioned paintings are held in private collections and Kosins continues to sell her work at both gallery shows and concert performances. She is known to paint as a multimedia artist from the stage during her performances.

A past recipient of the Michigan Council for the Arts (Jazz Composer of the Year), Kosins has received grants from Michigan's ArtServe advocacy group. Her clinics and workshops teach performance skills alongside business strategies for the independent artist and have been a success at over 200 colleges and universities across the USA.
