"There are so many great things about jazz but its award-winning vocalists are just one aspect of the genre that keeps listeners coming back for more. Singer/songwriter/arranger Kathy Kosins fits the bill when you think of someone that has it going on. She received critical acclaim for her debut CD MOOD SWINGS, and has been on the music scene writing hit songs for so many other artists that it would take a separate article to talk about that. So with VINTAGE, one can be sure that Kathy had already done her homework when it came to selecting 'vintage' songs for her next CD. Gathering such great players as Aaron Goldberg on piano & Fender Rhodes Jeremy Pelt on flugelhorn, Peter Bernstein on guitar, Reuben Rogers on bass, Eric Harland on drums and John Ellis on woodwinds, Ms. Kosins turns in a stunning performance as she sings those old songs that said so much in so little time. Kosins not only makes them sound so new but she swings them with a style and pace that will totally catch you off guard. Of special note is "Tomorrow Is Another Day," Bobby Troup's "Nice Girls Don't Stay For Breakfast," and "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" - all of which are totally redone in her own soulful alto. As a vocalist, she has her own sound. Top pick is Brenda Russell's "Get Here," because of Kosins' phrasings and jazzy update. Give it a listen."
