To The Ladies of Cool

Ladies of Cool is a concert experience based on Kathy Kosins’s nationally acclaimed album To the Ladies of Cool, a modern exploration of the West Coast jazz movement honoring Chris Connor, Anita O’Day, June Christy, and Julie London.

Blending sophisticated arrangements with storytelling that illuminates the lives and cultural impact of these pioneering artists, the program offers audiences both musical excellence and historical depth. The show has resonated strongly in performing arts centers and curated jazz series where listeners value context as much as craft.

Praised by Johnny Mandel, USA Today, The Village Voice, The Huffington Post, WBGO and others, Ladies of Cool is a scalable production—adaptable from intimate quartet to larger ensemble—making it flexible for a variety of PAC settings.

Praise

Kathy Kosins is a joy to hear. Her lyrics on “Hershey’s Kisses” melt in her mouth.

Johnny Mandel

She has a voice that commands attention, and a band that rewards it. She looks for songs that haven’t been beat to death… Will Friedwald’s notes liken her phrasing to Tony Bennett’s, which seems roughly true, especially on the closing ballads. But she’s hipper than
Bennett.

Tom Hall, Village Voice

…An in the pocket swinger with a sultry alto and a literate feel for lyrics…

Paul de Barros, Jazz Critic, Seattle Times

In “Don’t Wait Up for Me”, Kathy Kosins puts her sultry, elegant spin on one of Chris Connor’s less conspicuous triumphs on To The Ladies of Cool.

Elysa Gardner, USA Today

I Just wanted to let you know what an outstanding concert our audience enjoyed this summer when you played our Terrace Series. It’s hard in an outdoor venue to completely capture a crowd’s attention and hold it as if you were in a darkened theater, but that’s exactly what you did! The concert was one if the highlights of our summer season…

Lisa Rigby Peterson, Executive Director, Lone TreeCenter For The Arts

Whether Blues, Scatting, Ballads, or swinging, you take care of business and our Aspen audience thoroughly appreciated your show. Your Debut here was defiantly memorable. We look forward to having you back soon!
